The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra welcomes Joseph Kreines back as the Principal Conductor for his 3rd season. A native of

Chicago, Mr. Kreines came to Florida as associate conductor of the Florida Symphony Orchestra in Orlando, where he served for four years. Subsequently, he was conductor of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, associate conductor of The Florida Orchestra in Tampa and musical director for numerous opera and musical theatre productions.

He has served as a clinician and guest conductor with some 300 bands, orchestras and choruses throughout the state and also appears as piano accompanist at numerous recitals and festivals.

Additionally, Mr. Kreines has composed a number of original works for various media and has made numerous transcriptions for concert band and brass choir, being particularly renown for those of the music of Percy Grainger. He is also the author of Music for Concert Band, a selective annotated guide to band literature.

Mr. Kreines received a Masters degree in music from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from the University of Chicago. Mr. Kreines was just honored as an inductee to the 2004 Roll of Distinction in the Florida Bandmaster Hall of Fame.

Mr. Kreines' enthusiasm for the music, youth and education is certain to inspire a remarkable 2006-2007 Season. The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra under the direction of Joseph Kreines will continue to achieve our mission which is to offer the youth of Brevard County an opportunity to reach their highest potential and experience an exceptional musical experience.
