Dr. THOMAS SILLIMAN | ||||||
| He received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in cello performance from Arizona State University. He studied cello with Takayori Atsumi, Robert Ashby, Jacquelyn Dillon, and Robert Swenson. In 1981, he was a national finalist in the MTNA Collegiate Arts Competition. Dr. Silliman is assistant principal cellist with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and performs frequently with many musical organizations throughout the central Florida area. He is in his 14th year as an orchestra director and string teacher with the Brevard County School District, currently teaching in the Bayside High School feeder chain and serving as orchestra director at Southwest Middle School in Palm Bay. He also maintains a private teaching studio and is the performs in the Worship Orchestra at First Baptist Church in Melbourne. He performs frequently with his wife Becky in the Highwire cello and flute duo. Tom also enjoys playing with Becky in the Melbourne Municipal Band, where he occasionally plays the clarinet and she is flute section leader. Prior to coming to Brevard County in 1993, he served as professor of string education at Southern Utah University. Dr. Silliman is a past-president of the Florida Orchestra Association. His other professional affiliations include the Florida Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Pi Kappa Lambda. | |||||
